Abstract This article examines preterism not primarily as a disagreement over eschatological chronology, but as a system-level interpretive framework governed by a controlling logical constraint and sustained through systematic redefinition. It argues that preterism is driven by a false dilemma concerning prophetic credibility—namely, that New Testament eschatological prophecy must be exhaustively fulfilled within the first century or else Jesus and the apostolic witnesses were mistaken. Once this dilemma is accepted, exhaustive first-century fulfillment becomes non-negotiable, and interpretive flexibility is redirected away from chronology and toward the meaning, referent, and verification of prophetic language. Through representative case studies (Romans 8; Revelation 1:7; Olivet Discourse material), the article demonstrates how key eschatological concepts—resurrection, parousia, judgment, and fulfillment itself—are redefined in order to preserve first-century fulfillment claims. Particular attention is given to the collapse of fulfillment criteria, whereby correspondence between prophecy and historical event is no longer required. The study shows that this process results in a model of fulfillment that cannot, even in principle, be falsified by historical non-occurrence. The central conclusion is that preterism functions as a non-falsifiable eschatological system, not because it denies fulfillment, but because it redefines fulfillment in such a way that failure cannot be identified. While the article does not reject symbolic interpretation, typology, or inaugurated fulfillment, it argues that biblical prophecy presupposes stable referents and publicly identifiable outcomes. A model that insulates fulfillment claims from disconfirmation departs from the biblical logic of prophetic verification itself.
