AHEM: @redsteeze busts media pearl clutchers outraged over Donald Trump trashing John McCain

Wed, 03/20/2019 - 20:46

It’s a day ending in “y,” which of course means that Donald Trump is dumping on the late John McCain. Because nothing says “I’m a big, strong, powerful man” like trashing a war hero. Disagreeing with McCain on politics is one thing; spitting on the memory of a man who made actual sacrifices to serve his country with honor simply because you disagree with his politics is something else entirely. John McCain was by no means perfect, but he didn’t deserve this:

President Trump on John McCain: "I gave him the kind of funeral that he wanted, which as president I had to approve. I don't care about this. I didn’t get thank you. That's ok. We sent him on the way, but I wasn't a fan of John McCain."

— CSPAN (@cspan) March 20, 2019

Needless to say, Trump’s getting deservedly dumped on, himself:

Disgraceful behavior.

— Stephen Gutowski (@StephenGutowski) March 20, 2019

What a scumbag, but at least we got tariffs and no wall.

— Anthony Bialy (@AnthonyBialy) March 20, 2019

Devin Nunes has thicker skin than this idiot man child.

— BT (@back_ttys) March 20, 2019

Trump is a shameless pig.

— ƧЦƧΛП •— O)|||||(O —• (@wayward_okie) March 20, 2019

This is disgusting. The president's defenders frequently underestimate the malignant effect of such a toxic person on a nation and a political party.

— David French (@DavidAFrench) March 20, 2019

Our Guardians of Truth are appalled by Trump’s remarks as well:

The President was in Ohio to promote his efforts to save a Lima tank factory and to tout manufacturing. Instead, the headlines will be about Sen. McCain, foreign adversaries and Mueller. Had he stuck to the script, he could have had the coverage his team sought. He didn't.

— Phil Elliott (@Philip_Elliott) March 20, 2019

Trump is totally bashing John McCain again in front of a pro-military crowd in Ohio.

The crowd is silent.

— Kathryn Watson (@kathrynw5) March 20, 2019

As Trump goes off on McCain yet again:

1) McCain spent five and half years in a POW prison in Hanoi, where he was tortured but refused early release.
2) Trump got multiple educational deferments and then claimed "bone spurs" kept him out of the draft.

— S.V. Dáte (@svdate) March 20, 2019

Trump's obsession with John McCain is creepy AF. How are you THIS pressed with a dead man when you're the so-called leader of the free world?

— Britni Danielle (@BritniDWrites) March 20, 2019

"The President now, quadrupling down."@BrookeBCNN shares a new instance of Trump attacking John McCain.
In Ohio, Trump says of McCain "I've never liked him much, hasn't been for me."
Trump then adds "I gave him the kind of funeral that he wanted … I didn't get 'thank you.'"

— CNN Newsroom (@CNNnewsroom) March 20, 2019

……I have no words

— Katie Couric (@katiecouric) March 20, 2019

No words? Interesting, Katie. Because you and the media had plenty of words about John McCain when he was alive. As Twitchy staple Stephen Miller, aka @redsteeze, points out, the media only seem to have taken up defending John McCain’s honor after Trump started disparaging it:

Man I haven’t seen this much hate directed at McCain since the media and the 2008 election.

— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) March 20, 2019

Nailed it.

by some of the same media folk who are pretending as if they respect, and revere Mccain…its all left wing politics…lol

— notional emerg'cy (@randOmuos) March 20, 2019

— Duff1st (@1stDuff) March 20, 2019

— Vickie Freeman (@vlfAKAfreebird) March 20, 2019

Trump’s remarks today — like his past remarks about McCain — are indeed shameful and disgusting. But the media clutching their pearls when they spent years crapping on John McCain reeks of self-righteous disingenuousness. In other words, they’re full of it.

‘Mind blowing stuff’! Nate Silver notes popularity of switching to popular vote (and people have thoughts)

Wed, 03/20/2019 - 20:36

Calls from many Democrats for a constitutional amendment to scrap the Electoral College for U.S. presidential elections and switch to a national popular vote system are all the rage. Just how popular is the move to switch to the popular vote? Pollster Nate Silver said the popular vote is fairly popular:

Pundits who are implying that eliminating the Electoral College is some sort of radical position should check the polls. Most people support a Constitutional amendment to change to a popular vote.

— Nate Silver (@NateSilver538) March 20, 2019

Is that so? People have thoughts on that:

You mean it’s popular to change to the popular vote? Wow. That’s mind blowing stuff. Thanks Nate.

— Jesse Kelly (@JesseKellyDC) March 20, 2019

We are not a democracy. The Founders were emphatic that we not be a democracy. Oh and if this ever changes, that really is the end of us. And will be the beginning of a national breakup of America. Rural America would never stand for being dominated like that.

— Jesse Kelly (@JesseKellyDC) March 20, 2019

— David Harsanyi (@davidharsanyi) March 20, 2019

1. Something being popular doesn't mean that advocating it isn't a radical position.
2. Systems built to protect the less powerful by giving them disproportionate privileges almost always rankles the majority. See: Affirmative Action.

— neontaster (@neontaster) March 20, 2019

Radical does not mean "unpopular." Thankfully, it takes more support than that to amend the constitution.

— art jones (@drivenbyart) March 20, 2019

“Area Majorities Favor Eliminating Counter-majoritarian Protections”

— Daniel Foster (@DanFosterType) March 20, 2019

Unfortunately for Dems, no matter how “popular” they say the popular vote would be, it won’t be popular enough in the way it has to be, at least not for a long time:

The only thing that matters is whether 2/3s of Congress and 38 state legislatures agree. They don’t, and they won’t for the foreseeable future. It’s exactly this reality that enables candidates to so casually support abolition.

— Daniel Foster (@DanFosterType) March 20, 2019

Removing the Electoral college would require a Constitutional convention, a 2/3 majority in each half of Congress, and ratification by 38 states, many of which are tiny & want to protect their power.

Ain't gonna happen.

— EnterTheKingdom (@1Thunder_Struck) March 20, 2019

But since so many are on a “popular vote” kick, a final assignment:

Now… Do laws that ban third trimester abortion.

— Pradheep J. Shanker, M.D., M.S. (@Neoavatara) March 20, 2019

We’ll wait.

‘The hypocrisy continues’! Kirsten Gillibrand opioid crisis hot take bursts into flames, shot & chaser-style

Wed, 03/20/2019 - 14:35

As we told you yesterday, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand got a deserved shredding for this take on the opioid crisis:

If we want to end the opioid epidemic, we must work to address the root causes of abuse. That’s why @SenCoryGardner and I introduced legislation to limit opioid prescriptions for acute pain to 7 days. Because no one needs a month’s supply for a wisdom tooth extraction.

— Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (@gillibrandny) March 15, 2019

That tweet got ratioed in a bipartisan fashion, and among those reminding everybody about what a double-standard Gillibrand is setting on that issue is Brit Hume:

Shouldn’t this be between the patient and her doctor, sort of like, you know….

— Brit Hume (@brithume) March 19, 2019

Oh my. Let’s just say the Democrats senator and presidential candidate is not consistent on that point, and nobody has pointed that out more effectively than Gillibrand herself:

“A woman’s medical decisions should always be made between her and her doctor”

— Charles Signorile (@CharlieSigs) March 20, 2019

Gillibrand believes that, unless she doesn’t of course:

A woman’s health care decisions are between her and her doctor, not politicians in Washington.

— Kirsten Gillibrand (@SenGillibrand) January 29, 2018

Women should always have the right, freedom, and privacy to make their own decisions about their bodies, with their doctors and families—and without the federal government barging its way into the conversation. #7in10forRoe #Roe45

— Kirsten Gillibrand (@SenGillibrand) January 22, 2018

A woman’s health care decisions should be made between her and her doctor. No one else.

— Kirsten Gillibrand (@SenGillibrand) October 6, 2017

When women talk with their doctors, making personal decisions about their health, bodies, and families, Congress should stay out of the way.

— Kirsten Gillibrand (@SenGillibrand) April 15, 2017

Unless it comes to prescription medications, then Gillibrand thinks the government should review prescriptions on a weekly basis? Just perfect.

My body, my choice….oh, wait. I guess all health care decisions aren't between a woman and her doctor. Your hypocrisy continues.

— Slightly_Coherent (@SCoherent) March 20, 2019

You've stated on numerous occasions that abortion is a decision between a woman and her doctor, but you decide how long a person can take a painkiller?

— Stanley Roper (@TonyMegal) March 19, 2019

File Gillibrand’s tweet under “E” for “Epic Fail.”

‘Lose with honor’: Bill Kristol has high hopes that amateur psychologist George Conway will challenge Donald Trump for the GOP nomination

Wed, 03/20/2019 - 14:02

Bill Kristol floated a new name this morning to potentially take on Donald Trump in a 2020 GOP primary: George Conway, amateur psychologist and wife* husband to senior White House adviser Kellyanne:

I’ve assumed the GOP challenger to Trump would end up being someone like Weld or Kasich or Hogan or Haslem or Burgum or Hurd or Gallagher—but why not @gtconway3d? I suppose we could do a highly scientific poll: In a 2020 GOP primary, whom would you support?

— Bill Kristol (@BillKristol) March 20, 2019

Better to “lose” with honor than “win” with Trump.

— Bill Kristol (@BillKristol) March 19, 2019

Conway and the president are fighting it out over on Twitter this morning as well, with Trump calling “Mr. Kellyanne Conway a “stone cold LOSER & husband from hell”:

George Conway, often referred to as Mr. Kellyanne Conway by those who know him, is VERY jealous of his wife’s success & angry that I, with her help, didn’t give him the job he so desperately wanted. I barely know him but just take a look, a stone cold LOSER & husband from hell!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 20, 2019

Conway responded with, “You. Are. Nuts”:

You. Are. Nuts.

— George Conway (@gtconway3d) March 20, 2019

Conway, who has no medical training, diagnosed the president with Narcissistic Personality Disorder:

What really matters—who cares about me—is how many people have now reviewed the diagnostic criteria for Narcisisstic Personality Disorder? #ThankYouMrPresident

— George Conway (@gtconway3d) March 20, 2019

And he’s now comparing the president to Captian Queeg from “The Caine Mutiny”:

— George Conway (@gtconway3d) March 20, 2019

Of course, if you’ve watched the film (or, even better, have read the book) you know that it’s actually the junior officers around Queeg who failed their captain and abandoned him when he needed them most. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Editor’s note: We accidentally listed George Conway as Kellyanne’s wife.

‘WTF???’ Slate plummets to ‘new low’ with this demented take on the Christchurch massacre

Tue, 03/19/2019 - 23:18

At this point, we’d be more surprised to not see an awful take from Slate. And yet, somehow, we’re still amazed by this one on the deadly mosque shootings in Christchurch:

After Christchurch, we need more blame, not less.

— Slate (@Slate) March 19, 2019

Rachel Withers writes:

Who is responsible for the terrorist attack that killed at least 50 New Zealanders as they prayed in their mosques? Looked at one way, the answer is simple: The shooter alone bears the guilt for his crimes. But the picture is wider than that.

No, it’s really not. But Rachel’s hellbent on implicating a lot more people than the shooter. Namely, “all white Australians.”

So why do I feel so guilty? And why am I so angry not just at the obvious targets, but at my country?

Could it be because you’re demented and self-loathing? Actually, yes:

I’m a white Australian. I know that blaming myself and my cohort is illogical, but I can’t escape the feeling that all of white Australia is implicated in the deaths—a white majority that has fomented and let foment hate. Though he may have labeled himself a European, [the shooter] was an Aussie through and through, growing up in a country town north of Sydney, steeped in mainstream Australian racism and our particular national brand of Islamophobia. He grew up in the same Murdoch-controlled mass media environment that the rest of us did—one that recently trashed Islam 2,891 times in a single year—and under the same governments, with prime ministers who have repeatedly stoked anti-Muslim sentiment for votes, with one major party making it central to their electoral strategy.

You might think that this is all too strong, that placing at least some of the blame on white Australia is a kind of self-centered masochism, that blaming a nation’s culture for the sins of a citizen is like blaming humanity for the crimes of one man. But it’s better than the alternative, of saying “#notallAustralians” and looking the other way, thinking, well, there’s nothing I can do.

White Australians may not be strictly answerable for [the shooter’s] crime, but we have some big questions to ask ourselves. If you’re an Australian and reading this makes you feel defensive, you should ask them now.

If Rachel wants to self-flagellate for crimes someone else committed, that’s her prerogative. But to suggest that this is a “white Australian” problem is incredibly disingenuous. Not to mention seriously messed up.

— A.O_91 (@isse159) March 19, 2019

Isn't this what the shooter wanted?

— MonoValentine (@DagothValentine) March 19, 2019

This is… not a take Slate would publish if the circumstances were different.

— Alex Griswold (@HashtagGriswold) March 19, 2019

It most certainly is not.

So should all Islamic terrorist attack be blamed on all Muslims?

— Drink your Cocoa (@j0nath0npr1e5t0) March 19, 2019

So then every single Muslim is responsible for every single Islamic terrorist event? And every single black person is responsible for every single murder committed by a black? Why do you hate blacks and Muslims?

— Chihoowa' oshi' (@DroppinTheMitts) March 19, 2019

Rachel hates herself. And she’s taking it out on people who did nothing wrong.

Slate, this is a new low, blaming millions of innocent people for the atrocity at Christchurch

— Don't Tread (@tastysquirrel7) March 19, 2019

Yes of course. Let's continue spewing hate, because it's working wonders for is so far. Right???
And like others have already pointed out. This is akind to blaming all muslims for the actions of a few. Something that I'll never take part in. No matter the underlying ideology.

— Klaus Bech Rasmussen (@BechKlaus) March 19, 2019

Terrible choice, @Slate.
Racism in Australia is relevant. The writer's feelings of white guilt are up to her. But the Christchurch attack definitely does not implicate all white Australians.
Collective guilt is wrong. Counterproductive strategy and wrong.

— Nicholas Grossman (@NGrossman81) March 19, 2019

For those keeping track at home, white terrorism is a cultural problem, Islamic terrorism is not a cultural problem, except for when its carried out by men, which is indicative of a cultural problem, or the target is a gay bar, which is indicative of a Republican cultural problem

— Alex Griswold (@HashtagGriswold) March 19, 2019

Hate-click journalism is usually nice mixture of depressing and humorous. This is just gross.

Oops! Facebook apologizes for temporarily blocking President Trump’s social media director

Tue, 03/19/2019 - 22:59

On Monday night, Facebook blocked President Trump’s director of social media without explanation, but the social media site has apologized and said its automated systems mistook him for a bot.

Facebook BLOCKS @Scavino45 @realDonaldTrump ’s social media chief, no reason given

— Paul Bedard (@SecretsBedard) March 18, 2019

Needless to say, despite the assurances of Jim Acosta, the move didn’t sit well with those who suspect the big social media platforms are all biased against conservatives.

Will Facebook block me from posting your article about the block (will it be shadowbanned)? I didn't know you were on FB @Scavino45, I'll follow shortly.

President Trump even weighed in on Twitter Tuesday:

I will be looking into this! #StopTheBias

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 19, 2019

Though Facebook claimed comments on Dan Scavino’s account were being reported as spam, Facebook later apologized and explained that its automated systems had mistaken Scavino for a bot.

KPIX reports:

Facebook on Tuesday said it had apologized to White House social media director Dan Scavino for temporarily blocking some features on his account for a few hours on Monday.

In a statement, the social media giant headquartered in Menlo Park also said that its automated systems mistook Scavino for a bot.

Scavino wrote on Facebook on Monday that he was being blocked from replying to comments on the platform.

“AMAZING. WHY ARE YOU STOPPING ME from replying to comments followers have left me – on my own Facebook Page!!?? People have the right to know. Why are you silencing me???,” Scavino wrote.

Shocking how this consistently only happens to major figures on our side…isn't it.

‘Beyond parody’: Jim Acosta’s latest tantrum about the Daily Caller and Trump’s war on brave journos is ‘off the rails’ [video]

Tue, 03/19/2019 - 22:04

Jim Acosta has got a bee in his bonnet. And the Daily Caller and Donald Trump put it there:

Jim Acosta criticizes the questions asked by Daily Caller reporter @esaagar: The question was asked in a way that really tee'd it up like a game of tee-ball here in the Rose Garden. The president was just sort of served up a softball there…

— Julio Rosas (@Julio_Rosas11) March 19, 2019

Don’t worry … there’s more where that came from:

Video: Here's portions of Jim @Acosta's latest meltdown, attacking the @DailyCaller, accusing Trump of spreading "a virus" that the media's biased around the world, denies conservatives are silenced on social media and even suggested conservatives have bigger media footprint

Where to begin?

The question was asked in such a way that it was actually a question, not a speech.

— Jay Tee Ell Oh Ell (@jtLOL) March 19, 2019

Well no wonder Jim hated it so much! But seriously, that’s not even close to the stupidest part of Acosta’s rant.

It blows my mind that Jim Acosta of all people is criticizing how other reporters ask questions at press conferences. Beyond parody

— Peter J. Hasson (@peterjhasson) March 19, 2019

AOC knows the REAL reason her popularity has taken a dive (bet you can’t guess!)

Mon, 03/18/2019 - 21:22

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has only just recently begun to discover that she’s not nearly as popular and beloved as she thought she was. How can anyone possibly not like her? Well, Washington Monthly contributor and California Democratic Party officer — and, based on his Twitter name, apparent advocate for court packing — David Atkins has got it figured out: bigots and Fox News.

It's interesting to see centrists suddenly downplay or ignore the effects of racism, sexism and Fox News targeting when discussing @AOC's overall approval ratings.

— David Atkins #11Justices (@DavidOAtkins) March 18, 2019

Centrism can never fail. It can only be failed. If a centrist candidate is unpopular, they blame racism, sexism and "Berniebros."

If a progressive candidate is underwater *only with older white men*, then it's "the left is unpopular" and only Biden, Schumer and Beto can save us.

— David Atkins #11Justices (@DavidOAtkins) March 18, 2019

There's also this weird phenomenon where if a 60-year-old Romney supporter will only for a white male moderate, everyone gravely nods their head. But if a 30-year-old disaffected voter will only back a dem socialist, everyone loses their mind.

— David Atkins #11Justices (@DavidOAtkins) March 18, 2019

Sounds like a big bowl of word salad to us, but it makes total sense to AOC herself:

When “centrists” care more about the GOP base than the Dem base, bigotry gets legitimized.

This is *the* playbook. GOP does it w/ virtually every Dem figure who isn’t a white male: otherize, demonize + splinter.

It’s vital that we adapt & dismantle this approach, not cow to it.

— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) March 18, 2019

First of all, “cow to it”? For the love of God, somebody please get this girl a dictionary.

It’s not “cow” though …

— teeshirt_tim [SSC] (@budbunde26) March 18, 2019

Can we talk about "cow to it"? My inner grammar nerd wants to say it should be "kowtow to it" but maybe others have seen this bovine-based variation?

— Art Pennymasher (@ArtPennymasher) March 18, 2019

She meant either cowed by it, or kowtow to it.

— ND_Strong (@irishbluegold) March 18, 2019

Not cow to it? Or kowtow? I’m confused

— BriziDoesIt (@PersianKiss) March 18, 2019

We all are. Including her.

— Adam Trahan (@AdamTrahan) March 18, 2019

She is openly anti-cow.

— Mr.Bookman (@bamabear40) March 18, 2019

Cute that a woman who regularly defends anti-Semitic bigots Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib is worried about bigotry being legitimized. By “centrists,” no less! Also, what the hell is she on about? Let’s see if she’ll start to make more sense:

We can’t gloss over it, or quietly consider that the “shrewd” thing to do is nominate someone who won’t be subject to bigoted attacks.

Morally, we can’t give a pass to this dangerous tactic.

But even politically, the Dem base is all the people you demoralize by not standing up.

— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) March 18, 2019

This is different than being moderate on policy. I may disagree w/ approach (keeping the ACA as-is w/small tweaks, etc), but at least that’s a policy convo.

But to make decisions based on the political efficacy of a bigoted argument gives that bigotry power, & that’s a problem.

— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) March 18, 2019

She’s a stunning, brave, strong, independent woman who just so happens to bust out the victim card whenever the going gets tough.

Dear Lord

— dudefromaplace (@jon38218117) March 18, 2019

Apparently no one who has ever criticized AOC has ever done so because what she was saying was extreme or absurd (or both). All responses are the result of racism and sexism:

— John Sexton (@verumserum) March 18, 2019

Not everything you disagree with is *bigotry*, AOC.

— Yeet (@seanthevaliant1) March 18, 2019

Not everything is about you.

— Cynthia Runions (@CynthiaRunions) March 18, 2019

It’s always about her. She needs it to always be about her. That’s the thing about narcissists.

Isn't it possible people just don't like you?

— Boomieleaks (@notwokieleaks) March 18, 2019

She can’t handle that possibility. Because it’s the truth. And if there’s one thing we know about AOC, it’s that she most definitely cannot handle the truth.

"AOC is polling unfavorably but only because they're bigots" is a take

— Alex Griswold (@HashtagGriswold) March 18, 2019

Poll: 2/3 of New Yorkers say they supported the Amazon deal

Also poll: AOC's support is underwater in New York

genius: Damn it, Fox News

— Alex Griswold (@HashtagGriswold) March 18, 2019

And of course any theory that relies on ethnicity/gender/propaganda being the reason for AOC's bad numbers requires a third of New York Democrats to also be bigots/rabid Fox viewers.

— Alex Griswold (@HashtagGriswold) March 18, 2019

Also, AOC's unfavorability with NY Dems is about twice national Dems (30% to 15% per Gallup, 14% per Fox). So any explanation for her in-state unpopularity probably begins and ends with local politics, not bigotry or cable news or whatever.

— Alex Griswold (@HashtagGriswold) March 18, 2019

God forbid AOC admit that maybe she’s just not so special after all.

Why is the left so obtuse about this?

— Chris G (@ChrisGTwoAgain) March 18, 2019

Because they choose to be.

Knocked TF OUT! J.R. Salzman drops MASSIVE mic on Sen. Chris Murphy for telling Americans which guns ‘they don’t need’

Sun, 03/17/2019 - 12:37

Senator Chris Murphy took it upon himself to tell Americans what firearm they do and do not need to go hunting (of course) and to defend themselves and their homes. You would think someone who is so obviously clueless about guns in general would have learned long ago that making such ridiculously ignorant statements will only get him dragged.

But it is Murphy we’re talking about.

Look at this tripe.

Nobody needs an AR-15 to hunt.

Nobody needs a semi-automatic rifle to defend their home.

But mass shooters NEED these weapons in order to murder as many people as efficiently as possible.

And so nobody will miss them when they are illegal – except for the killers.

— Chris Murphy (@ChrisMurphyCT) March 16, 2019

Nobody needs a know-it-all senator telling them what they do and don’t need either and yet here is Murphy.

The egos on these people, wow.

J.R. Salzman set Murphy straight because like us, he’s a giver.

Don’t you think it’s fascinating the same yahoos who tell us how bad Trump is, how dangerous he is, want him to have ultimate power over the people? It’s just so bizarre. That and to Salzman’s point, the good senator has security whereas the average American does NOT, and for him to think it is in any way appropriate to tell the little people what they need to defend themselves is just obnoxious.

A single mom with small children awakes at 1am to sound of 3 intruders breaking into her home intent on harm (cuz that never happens right?) How many bullets does she need to repel the threat & protect her family. As many as it takes asshole. I wouldn't want her to have 1 too few

Nobody needs a senator from CT telling them what they need.

These 3 videos from CBP show EXACTLY why there’s a crisis on the southern border

Sat, 03/16/2019 - 12:42

Is there a crisis on the southern border? You be the judge. . .

52 Central American migrants cut through the fence in Imperial Beach, California and after a “2-hour foot chase,” all were apprehended.” And then, after trying to evade capture for 2 hours, they all claimed asylum:

Video captured 3/14 shows an illegal crossing of Central American migrants. None of the 52 people surrendered to the #USBP agent on the beach. All 52 people were eventually arrested after a 2 hour foot chase with multiple agents. Once in custody, everyone claimed asylum. #CBP

— CBP San Diego (@CBPSanDiego) March 15, 2019

No big deal, just smugglers using little girls thrown over the fence as a decoy so others can enter America illegally:

Last night, a human smuggler dropped two young Salvadoran girls, 6 and 9, from the aging border barrier behind concertina wire. As agents vacated their patrol positions in response, 10 people crossed illegally nearby. They eluded capture. #USBP #CBP #BORDER #BORDERSECURITY

— CBP San Diego (@CBPSanDiego) March 12, 2019

Is 700 people getting caught in one day a lot? Note: This is where Beto O’Rourke says we don’t need a border wall of any kind:

#BorderPatrol agents apprehended more than 700 people in El Paso yesterday, including 2 previously removed sex offenders.

— CBP (@CBP) March 8, 2019

And America’s catch-and-release policy has created so many immigrants in the U.S. that Greyhound had to change its policy to only allow ticketed passengers inside their bus stations because it was just too crowded:

Greyhound told US officials to stop dropping off immigrants who have been released from custody inside its bus stations, @AP has learned.

Sen. Bernie Sanders somehow ran into a shower door while he was campaigning in South Carolina today, which sent him to a walk-in clinic for 7 stitches:

Just in: @BernieSanders campaign informed the press that the senator will proceed with his schedule after hitting his head on a glass shower door this morning. He went to a walk-in clinic and received 7 stitches. The notice says he was given a "clean bill of health".

No big deal, just a new smuggling scheme where traffickers bus large numbers of asylum seekers directly to the border

Sat, 03/16/2019 - 00:46

The Washington Post is out with a bombshell report today on a new tactic being using by traffickers in Mexico to take advantage of the “dysfunction” in the United States as it relates to asylum seekers:

EXCLUSIVE Traffickers capitalizing on US asylum dysfunction + slackening Mexico enforcement have launched an unprecedented smuggling operation that uses express buses to deliver Guatemalan families to the border, making the trip faster, safer —and cheaper

— Nick Miroff (@NickMiroff) March 15, 2019

Basically, the traffickers have found a way to reduce their costs and make more money by bringing as many people to the border as fast as possible and not caring if they are apprehended or not:

The direct bus method allows smugglers to eliminate the need for stash houses near the border, reducing costs and maximizing profits. They pitch the journey to the U.S. like a tour package, bringing families to staging areas in southern Mexico to organize them into bus groups

— Nick Miroff (@NickMiroff) March 15, 2019

This is the national emergency right here:

Then they speed north, delivering large groups at drop-off points in the El Paso area and points west opposite Arizona and New Mexico. The families are directed to walk across the border and surrender to U.S. agents to start the asylum process, with expectation of a quick release

— Nick Miroff (@NickMiroff) March 15, 2019

Expect to see more of this, too:

The express bus operators generally avoid Tamaulipas, and to date have generated few reports of violence or mistreatment. But the smuggling system is facilitating a record surge in the number of families crossing the border, many of them in groups of 100 or more.

— Nick Miroff (@NickMiroff) March 15, 2019

Capitalism for the win?

All of this is a market-driven response to fact that migrants with children can now travel north relatively openly. That is making the journey much safer. But it is also accelerating the kind of unauthorized mass migration that no wall or barrier will stop

WHAT’S HE HIDING? Beto O’Rourke REFUSES to share his first-day fundraising total

Fri, 03/15/2019 - 21:54

When Beto O’Rourke announced he was running for president yesterday, he sent out a fundraising email that said, “What we raise in the first 24 hours will set the tone in the national conversation about the viability of our campaign”:

So what's the benchmark for Beto's 24 hour $$? Bernie's $6 m? Kamala Harris' $1.5 m?

And before you say only Twitter cares, here's a Beto fundraising email:

— Alex Seitz-Wald (@aseitzwald) March 15, 2019

And now he won’t tell his supporters just how much he raised:

Beto O’Rourke, in Washington, Iowa, on releasing his first day fundraising numbers: “I choose not to.”

— Reid J. Epstein (@reidepstein) March 15, 2019

He could tell them, but he chooses not to:

in Washington, Iowa, @BetoORourke is asked again on whether he will be releasing his fundraising numbers for what's come in since he launched.
"I can't," he said.
You could, I pointed out.

Can we just ban STUPID instead? Brian Krassenstein wants to ban white nationalists annnd ROFL

Fri, 03/15/2019 - 19:17

We have an idea. How about the Krassenstein brothers go back to being Justin Bieber fan accounts and stop pretending like they know anything about politics? Sounds good, right?

Especially when you see tweets like this from Ed.

Wait, that’s Brian.

Sorry, it’s easy to get them confused.

I have an idea. How about we get a white nationalist ban in this country?

— Brian Krassenstein (@krassenstein) March 15, 2019

Sure Brian, let’s just start banning groups of people. Sounds like a plan.

We get it, he was responding to AOC (who makes him look like a genius, think about THAT for a minute) claiming we have a Muslim Ban in this country. But we don’t, because in America we don’t BAN GROUPS OF PEOPLE. The Left can shake their tiny fists and insist we do but we do not.

Period. The ban is a Travel Ban and only include countries that are known for harboring terrorists. Hell, two of them listed aren’t even Muslim countries.

Is there a country called "White Nationalist", because nobody is banned from entering this country based on their religion? Why did the media not call Obama's identical travel restrictions a "Muslim ban"? I mean, you're a member of the media, so…

— Dead Vape Shop (@fatcatvapor) March 15, 2019

See, once you start banning groups of people eventually they’ll get around to YOUR group, even if there are only two of you.

Bill de Blasio reiterates dislike of capitalism (but would still REALLY like to get his hands on the wealth it generates) [video]

Fri, 03/15/2019 - 19:15

You’re well aware that New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has expressed his opinion that there’s plenty of money in the world, but it’s just in the wrong hands. Today Comrade de Blasio was again asked his opinion of capitalism, and he again expressed a dislike of that particular system — all except for the money part. Watch:

Democrat New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio repeatedly declined to endorse capitalism when pressed by Susan Del Percio on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” instead saying that the U.S. should be “redistributing” wealth.

— Steve Guest (@SteveGuest) March 15, 2019

In other words, the part of capitalism de Blasio likes is the wealth it generates, but at that point it should be stripped from those who made it. An ironic mindset considering the city he “leads”:

What city do you think you are mayor of?

— Dan McLaughlin (@baseballcrank) March 15, 2019

Maybe he’s just there because that’s where the money is.

Capitalism is the only reason there is wealth to redistribute in the first place!

‘She’s come a long way’! Kamala Harris’ praise for students on #ClimateStrike hits awkward snag [video]

Fri, 03/15/2019 - 19:07

Today, students all over the world have taken to the streets to raise awareness about climate change:

A movement that began with a single teenager distributing homemade fliers outside the Swedish parliament last summer became a global phenomenon on Friday, as students worldwide skipped school and took to the streets to urgently demand that adults combat the perils of climate change.

Starting in the South Pacific and moving west with the sun, the protests blanketed grand city centers and humble village squares. Organizers said they were expecting demonstrations in at least 112 countries, in more than 1,700 locations.

The coordinated demonstrations were planned as the largest manifestation to date of the Fridays for Future movement, in which students forgo classes each week in favor of something they have said is more important: pleading for action on an issue that will affect every person on the planet, but young people most of all.

Kamala Harris, for one, couldn’t be prouder:

I'm so proud of all the young people striking today to bring awareness to the fact that climate change is real, it's here & it poses an existential threat to our future. We must act now.

If you're participating in the #ClimateStrike, tweet me your photos!

— Kamala Harris (@SenKamalaHarris) March 15, 2019

Isn’t that special?

— How Woke? Marvel Woke. (@JSpiederman) March 15, 2019

Encouraging truancy is irresponsible. Just wait until they think for themselves and realize you haven’t been truthful.

— Perry (@rpmelvin) March 15, 2019

And speaking of truancy …

She's come a long way from prosecuting parents of kids who skipped school….

— Drew McCoy (@_Drew_McCoy_) March 15, 2019

Flashback a decade or so:

Kamala Harris at an event hosted by the Commonwealth Club in 2010, explaining her decision as San Francisco DA to get tough on truancy.

Critics of truancy crackdowns say such efforts unfairly target poor parents and children without actually helping students.

— Walker Bragman (@WalkerBragman) January 28, 2019

Harris cheerfully recounts the story of sending an attorney from her office to intimidate a homeless single mother whose children were missing school. She smiles as she recalls how she instructed her subordinates to “look really mean” so that the mother would take the threat of jail seriously. In separate footage, Harris mocks those on the left who say things like “build schools, not jails” and “put more money into education, not prisons”, suggesting they are naive sloganeers who do not understand crime prevention.

Harris looked at the problem of perpetual truancy and believed she ought to start locking up parents. A humane progressive looks at the problem and asks: why do absences actually occur? Truancy occurs disproportionatelyamong children whose parents are poor and less-educated, and among children who don’t feel safe at school, who have to work or support their families, who have mental and physical health issues, and who are in unstable living situations.

Given the social reality, the idea of fining or jailing parents over student absences is both cruel and unwise. It targets the poorest and most desperate parents, and it doesn’t actually address the root causes. Even if it succeeds in reducing truancy rates, it inflicts yet more burdens on the most vulnerable people in society. But it’s not even clear that it succeeds even by its own standard, with research suggesting that “although truancy proceedings can increase a child’s school attendance in the short term, answering to a judge for school absence does not help students graduate from high school or avoid crime”.

What’s striking about Harris’s talk is that she doesn’t seem at all aware of the socioeconomic implications of her policy. She admits that when she proposed jailing parents, members of her staff thought it was a terrible idea. But she laughs about it. In a 2009 op-ed about her efforts, Harris brags about the reductions in truancy rates she achieved through harsher “accountability” practices, but she doesn’t discuss the potential downsides to a child’s development of putting their parents in jail for up to a year, nor does she think much about who the likely targets of her policy would be.

Something tells us Harris hasn’t so much realized the error of her ways as she’s been willing to say whatever she needs to in order to hold onto power and score political points. Just call her Kamala Kameleon.

NOT a furry thing (ha!): Beto O’Rourke has some ‘splainin’ to do about his alleged days with the Cult of the Dead Cow

Fri, 03/15/2019 - 17:23

When you’re a Twitchy editor you write about some crazy stuff. It’s a benefit and a challenge of the position, true story. Most of the time we sit back and laugh THEN write about it so you all can laugh with us.

Like Beto O’Rourke supposedly having been in the Cult of the Dead Cow.

That’s not the name of his punk band when he dressed up like a unicorn or whatever the animal. Nope, it’s apparently the name of a group of hackers from the ’90s.

Fresh U.S presidential candidate @BetoORourke was a member of the country’s oldest hacking group, which has kept his role a secret for decades – until now. My story is up on Reuters at, but let me say a little more in this thread. (1/10)

— Joseph Menn (@josephmenn) March 15, 2019

That this is real life still has us shaking our heads, every day.

O’Rourke wasn't just a random hacker who stole long-distance service to reach bulletin boards, where tech-savvy people hung out online before the Web. As a teen, he also belonged to the notorious and wildly influential Cult of the Dead Cow (2/10)

— Joseph Menn (@josephmenn) March 15, 2019

Notorious and wildly influential … and now he wants to be our president.

The revelation makes O’Rourke the most prominent ex-hacker in American political history. It also fits: he was already known for being rebel enough to tour in a punk band, to unseat a Congressman from his own Democratic party, and to support gun control in Texas. (3/10)

— Joseph Menn (@josephmenn) March 15, 2019

So much ANGST in these photos, HA HA HA HA.

Are those flowers on his shirt?

You know what, we don’t wanna know.

#CultoftheDeadCow burst onto the national scene as the biggest exemplar of hacker culture in 1998, at Def Con, when the group released Back Orifice, which let almost anyone take control of someone else’s computer. (4/10)

— Joseph Menn (@josephmenn) March 15, 2019

*quickly changes passwords to EVERYTHING*

The group released a more sophisticated version the following year, forcing #Microsoft to get serious about security. And cDc coined the term “hacktivism,” to describe politically motivated hacking, with Chinese censorship as the cDc’s first target. (5/10)

— Joseph Menn (@josephmenn) March 15, 2019

Then I saw stories on @BetoORourke, who had started running in the Senate primary in Texas to face off against @tedcruz. Looking at where he was from, and his history and style, I guessed he was the one. My sources in the cDc didn’t confirm it, but they didn’t deny it. (7/10)

— Joseph Menn (@josephmenn) March 15, 2019

It’s when they don’t deny it that you start to wonder.

No one in cDc would talk about O’Rourke until I promised not to publish before the 2018 election. That was OK: I wanted the full story for my book, which spans decades, rather than 1 scoop ahead of a state vote. I offered O’Rourke the same terms. He accepted, and we spoke. (8/10)

— Joseph Menn (@josephmenn) March 15, 2019

Yeah, he’s selling a book … but still, this is some crazy stuff.

No one thought he would lose the Senate race & immediately enter onto an even bigger stage, but here we are, and the embargo is up. The book is out soon, O’Rourke is running for president, and people should hear the missing part of his story. (9/10)

— Joseph Menn (@josephmenn) March 15, 2019

As we said, he’s selling a book BUT if any of this is true … probably something Beto should answer for, doncha think?

But only if he promises to dress up like a cow. OMG WE’RE JUST KIDDING.

Reuters reports Beto O'Rourke was a phreaker (phone hacker) in the Cult of the Dead Cow (80s-90s hacking group), and under alias “Psychedelic Warlord” he wrote a fiction story as a teen about stealing happiness from children by hitting them with his car:

‘Going to destroy him’: Kamala Harris already has her sights set on Beto O’Rourke, and we’re here for it [screenshots]

Fri, 03/15/2019 - 17:20

Now that Beto O’Rourke has officially thrown his hat into the 2020 ring, he’d better be prepared for everything that goes with it. If Mr. Nice Guy wants to have a chance in this race, he’s gonna have to fight a little dirty. Like Kamala Harris:

A short story of DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY trickery –>

KAMALA HARRIS runs google search ads on BETO's Name (keywords 'Beto' and 'America)

— Logan Dobson (@LoganDobson) March 14, 2019

when the user clicks – intentionally or unintentionally – they're taken to a KAMALA sign-up page.

But TWIST: the page has been doctored to match BETO'S black & white colors, and Kamala logo moved off to the side

(tricky Kamala-Beto page left, regular Kamala-Kamala page right)

— Logan Dobson (@LoganDobson) March 14, 2019

The proof that this was intentionally doctored to look like a Beto page? All in the URL for the search ad –>

Look closely and you'll see "%2Bbeto and %2Bamerica_ad"

— Logan Dobson (@LoganDobson) March 14, 2019

and that's how you get people interested in Beto's big announcement to – accidentally or intentionally – sign up for Kamala Harris's email list

— Logan Dobson (@LoganDobson) March 14, 2019

The issue isn't running search ads against your opponents name — that's super common and non-controversial!

But designing a new email sign-up page to mimic your opponent's color scheme? That's just a weeeeeee bit trickier.

to be clear, I admire it

— Logan Dobson (@LoganDobson) March 14, 2019

Damn, Kamala.

Kamala Harris came to play

— Drew McCoy (@_Drew_McCoy_) March 15, 2019

We can’t wait to see what else she’s got planned for him.

The media is dominated by the Democrat Party but apparently understands nothing about how Party politics actually work. That's why it was hilarious to watch reporters swoon over "Beto" for the past few days. The other Party candidates will turn him into roadkill.

Whether he’s tracking dirt all over the counter of a coffee bar in Iowa or doing some sort of bizarre hand-jive in a homemade video, he never actually gets around to any specifics; the most concrete thing we’ve gotten from him is his admission that he’d not only not build a border wall, but tear down existing barriers between the U.S. and Mexico (something Kirsten Gillibrand also said she could get behind).

So while he’s doing the “aw, shucks” routine in Iowa and speaking in platitudes, reporters are wondering if “hope, change, and unity can beat Trump,” or does O’Rourke have to develop into a bit of a street fighter if he wants to compete with the president.

He answered that question with another great big squish:

Asked by @paulafaris if he has to be a "street fighter" to beat President Trump in 2020, Beto O'Rourke says "I think you have to believe in the genius of this country."

"Take no one for granted, write no one off…it's the only way I know how to run."

Wow, even Kamala Harris is going to deliver a good solid beat-down on this guy if he doesn’t show some testosterone soon.

Seems like a really nice guy. Doesn’t stand a chance against Trump, unfortunately. No way!

We’re looking forward to seeing how the Kumbaya act goes over on a debate stage with 48 Democratic candidates all trying to convince voters they’re the one who can beat Trump.
